Meet Niladri Banerjee, an IHM Kolkata alumnus who became the first student from his batch to secure a J1 internship in the USA. Now, he's empowering hospitality students to pursue global careers.
In 2017, Niladri Banerjee, a young and passionate student from IHM Kolkata (Taratala), created history by becoming the first student from his institute to earn a prestigious J1 internship opportunity in the United States of America. His journey from the classrooms of IHM to the world’s leading hospitality destinations is nothing short of inspirational.
Niladri’s foundation in hospitality management was laid at the renowned Institute of Hotel Management, Kolkata, where he specialized in culinary arts. With a deep passion for food, culture, and international service standards, Niladri stood out not only for his talent but also for his vision of taking Indian hospitality to a global platform.
In a historic achievement, Niladri was selected as a J1 intern in the USA—a rare feat at the time. His training in the United States exposed him to world-class kitchens, global cuisines, and professional standards of the hospitality industry. This experience sharpened his culinary skills and broadened his understanding of international hospitality operations.
With firsthand experience of how international exposure transforms careers, Niladri returned to India with a mission—to bridge the gap between Indian talent and global hospitality opportunities. This mission led to the creation of Crossborder Placement, a platform dedicated to guiding, preparing, and placing students and young professionals in international hospitality internships.
Today, Crossborder Placement has helped numerous students secure paid hospitality internships abroad in countries like the USA, Mauritius, New Zealand, Australia, and more. Niladri’s story continues to motivate students across India to Dream Big and Go Global.
“Your journey in hospitality doesn’t have to end in the classroom. With the right guidance and courage, the world is your workplace. If I could do it, so can you.”
— Niladri Banerjee, Founder of Crossborder Placement
